Sustainable Transparency: ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Altensteig implements verified CO₂ accounting
Altensteig, May 2025 – ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Altensteig GmbH (formerly SRW Schwarzwälder Röhrenwerk) is taking an important step toward sustainable production and transparent CO₂ accounting. The company now offers a verified Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) for its SRW steel precision tubes, providing customers with clear and reliable information about the carbon footprint of the products.
The calculation follows the Product Life Cycle Accounting and Reporting Standard (Greenhouse Gas Protocol, 2011) and DIN EN ISO 14067. This allows the company to disclose emissions across the entire supply chain up to the factory gate, covering Scope 1 to 3.
A key highlight is the significant CO₂ reduction achieved through the use of XCarb® low-carbon steel from ArcelorMittal’s plant in Sestao, Spain. This enables a reduction of the tubes’ carbon footprint by up to 72%. It is important to note that two separate PCF values are available: one for conventional blast furnace steel and one for XCarb® electric arc furnace steel.
The PCF assessment was carried out by Green Navigation GmbH and independently verified by GUTcert in Berlin.
“Our customers can rely on our SRW tubes not only for their high quality but also for their climate-conscious production. We are committed to transparency and sustainability throughout the entire value chain. Since many of our customers are required to report the carbon footprint of their own products, we provide them with clear, traceable, and verified figures,” says Adrian Alecu, Managing Director of ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Altensteig.
With this initiative, the company reinforces its commitment to a sustainable industry and empowers customers to make well-informed, sustainability-focused decisions.
